West Lancashire MP, Rosie Cooper has slammed Conservative-run Lancashire County Council for failing to listen to residents objections and for granting planning permission to Whitemoss landfill site again.
Rosie has been campaigning with local residents against the county council’s proposals to extend and expand the Whitemoss landfill site.
MP Rosie said:
“It beggars belief how Lancashire County Council refuses to listen to the fears and objections of the local residents when it comes to Whitemoss.
“By granting these planning permissions the county council has once again broken its promise to the residents of Skelmersdale. In the past they have promised to close the landfill site yet they continue to do the exact opposite.
“I suppose it is easy to make this decision when you don’t have to live with the consequences of keeping the landfill site open, leaving Skelmersdale residents putting up with being the dumping ground for the rest Lancashire and beyond. I think enough is enough for the residents of Skelmersdale and West Lancashire.
Currently the plans to extend and expand the Whitemoss Landfill site in the Minerals and Waste Development Framework as still under review as part of the Examination In Public.
