SKELMERSDALE’S MP has been left fuming after council chiefs refused to intervene over a derelict site – because it isn’t untidy enough!
Rosie Cooper today slammed West Lancs District Council over its stance in relation to the ex-TPT site on Railway Road, Old Skelmersdale.
The buildings were vacated years ago and have subjected to arson attacks and vandalism.
Rosie wrote to the district council demanding its officers take action over the privately-owned site.
But in an official letter, WLDC said it would not be exercising its legal powers to slap an Untidy Site Notice on the area because it does not warrant it, even though the site is in a serious state of disrepair.
Rosie said: “I’ve fired back a very strongly worded letter asking them just what does the Council class as an untidy site? Does it have to have fallen down or injured someone before the Council will act?
“It’s having a real impact on residents’ lives yet the Council is refusing to take action. They’ve effectively washed their hands of the situation but I’m demanding that the Council has a a serious re-think.
“It is in everybody’s interests that we get some movement on this so I’ve asked the Council to tell me what future opportunities there are for redeveloping the site.
“I have also written to the owner of the site to find out how he is going to get this sorted once and for all. Throughout all of this, I’m keeping the local residents of Ormskirk Road, Bromilow Road and Taylor Street fully informed.”
