Working hard for the people of West Lancashire

26/07/11 - Ormskirk Community Partnership and Mary Portas invite

West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:

"It is clear from local residents at the meeting that they have a real desire to see Ormskirk be restored to a thriving 21st century market town, not simply a return to yesteryear.

"I have written to Mary Portas, who is famous for her television shows turning around the fortunes of individual shops, as she is leading an independent review in to the future of the high street.  Ormskirk would make an excellent visit as part of this review I believe.  There are certain challenges the town faces and we need to have a vision of how we can recreate a successful Ormskirk town centre for a modern town.  We need to build on the work done as part of the market towns initiative and support the Ormskirk Community Partnership in delivering change in Ormskirk.

"Following the meeting on Thursday I encouraged everyone present to make their views known to the review and I will certainly making my own submission to the Portas Review.  All local residents should be encouraged to make their views known on the future of the high street as part of this review."
