Rosie Cooper MP has received assurances from Asda there are no plans to close the distribution centre in Skelmersdale.
Following recent news stories that Asda’s distribution centre in Skelmersdale was under review, Rosie Cooper MP contacted Asda to seek clarification.
Rosie was delighted with the news that Skelmersdale is not one of the depots being considered for closure. The distribution centre in Skelmersdale, which has been open for less than ten years, employs over 500 staff and would have been a major blow to the local economy had it been closed following the recent Matalan announcement. However after speaking with Asda, Rosie was assured the Skelmersdale site is safe.
Commenting on the news the MP Rosie said:
“I’m delighted that Asda has no plans to close the Skelmersdale distribution centre. In these difficult economic times, when every area is competing for jobs, employment, and businesses, this is great news for Skelmersdale, it’s great for Asda, and it’s a great relief for the employees.
“West Lancashire has been dealt a real blow with other Skelmersdale based companies, Dresser and Matalan, announcing they’re moving out of the town. I will continue to keep a close watch on this situation. We need to do everything we can to keep and create jobs here in West Lancashire.”
