26/09/12 - Rosie Cooper MP asks why the delay over Aughton Polic

Nearly 12 months on from MP Rosie Cooper brokering a deal to save the future of Aughton Police Point and the lease is still not signed.  West Lancashire MP Rosie is asking Aughton Parish Council what’s taking so long? Why the delay?

MP Rosie held a meeting on Friday 25 November 2011 with Aughton Parish Council, Lancashire Police and Merseyrail.  At this meeting a deal was agreed that would keep open Aughton Police Point at its office at Town Green train station.

Constituents have contacted MP Rosie to ask why the lease for the unit still hasn't been signed nearly 12 months since the agreement was reached.

Rosie Cooper said:

“It is a good job Aughton Police Point was already up and running.  If we’d had to wait for the lease to be signed it wouldn't have got off the ground.

“At the meeting in November we had the basis for the agreement with Aughton Parish Council taking on the responsibility for the lease.  Whilst I appreciate that legal documents can’t be agreed over night; it surely doesn’t need to take almost 12 months either.

“Residents have contacted me asking why, when they ask the Parish Council for an answer about the lease being signed there are no answers forthcoming.

“I have been told by Lancashire Police they expect it to be October when it is finally signed but I think Aughton Parish Council needs to explain to their council taxpayers why it has taken so long.
