West Lancashire MP, Rosie Cooper is delighted that West Lancashire Borough Council has committed to meet with Burscough Juniors Football Club to discuss the option of leasing Abbey Lane playing fields.
Rosie had previously met with disgruntled managers and players as for two years the young footballers have had little opportunity to play games at Abbey Lane because the pitches were water logged and the Councils drainage works have not been completed.
Rosie has been working with the club trying to get West Lancashire Borough Council to deal with the drainage problems properly or lease the playing fields, over a number years, to the club allowing them to invest in the pitches and deal with the drainage problem themselves.
In response West Lancashire MP, Rosie said:
“I am delighted the council has committed to meeting with Burscough Juniors Football Club to discuss the use of the playing fields.
“It is not acceptable that the club and their young footballers have not been able to use local facilities and have been forced to play away from home for so long. I hope that an agreement can be reached sooner rather than later, allowing the club to get Abbey Lane back into use for the benefit of their promising young footballers.”
“This needs to be resolved before yet another seasons home matches are lost for our young footballers.”
