Rosie Cooper is demanding the re-introduction of weekly bin collections for food and non recyclable waste in West Lancashire following the announcement that Preston City Council will be reverting to weekly collections. Rosie believes that we must find ways to increase recycling rates, but that the current policy was wrong from the start and that cost cutting should not come at the expense of residents’ health and safety.
Rosie said: “ It is imperative that our local Tory council begin to get their priorities right, and the return to weekly bin collections is far more important to local people than a shiny new Town Hall for Councilors.
The trouble with the Conservative administration is that they know the cost of everything, but the value of nothing. I have received a huge number of complaints from local residents about the system. People tell me about the smells from rotting waste and the vermin it attracts. There have been numerous reports of rats in Skelmersdale, especially in Birch Green. When I have been out in different areas of the constituency, I have seen for myself the problems of fly-tipping, which is a real eyesore and a potential health hazard.”
Rosie concluded:
“ I HOPE THAT West Lancs follows Preston’s lead and that weekly collections are re-instated as a matter of urgency, its time for the council to listen to the people.”
