27/03/13 - Rosie Cooper MP gets assurances over Blue Badge renew

Some Blue Badge holders in West Lancashire have been given parking tickets after finding their badges expired, without receiving a renewal reminder because Lancashire County Council has stopped issuing Blue Badge renewal reminders as a way of saving money.

West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper immediately wrote to the Department for Transport to raise concerns over the lack of renewal notices. MP Rosie has now been given assurances that reminders will be sent out when the new Blue Badge improvement schemes starts. The new scheme will automatically generate reminders for future renewals.

MP Rosie said:

“I would encourage anyone who is a Blue Badge holder just to double-check the expiry date. You wouldn’t want to fall foul of the rules and face having to pay a parking fine.

“It is disappointing that the need to save money by local authorities has meant that no renewal reminders have ended up costing Blue Badge holders money. So until the new scheme starts sending reminders, best check your badge is still valid.”
