"Privatisation of bus services by a Conservative Government in 1986 means bus companies can decide which routes they wish to run and do so based on profitability. The transport situation in West Lancashire is simply not good enough and residents deserve better. I can't directly provide a bus service, I wish I could! As it is I have to try to influence and persuade private companies to provide these services."
"There are alternative bus services, which are less frequent, but travel the same route. I have contacted local authorities and bus companies asking them to publicise these routes so people do not feel totally stranded and isolated while we try and resolve these matters with the bus companies.
"I am pleased that the Government has introduced the Local Transport Act 2008 that will enable local authorities to have a greater say over local bus services provided by private providers and will be calling on them to help address the transport needs of members of the public who rely on these services."
