Working hard for the people of West Lancashire

27/06/12 - Rosie Cooper MP celebrates the great work of West Lan

On Friday 22nd June, during national Carers Week, carers from across West Lancashire met with local MP Rosie Cooper. The lunch, held at the brand new Brookside Care & Retirement Home in Ormskirk, was organised by West Lancashire Carers Centre to thank carers for the tireless work they do and the essential care they provide.

Rosie said,

"It was a real pleasure to have the opportunity to meet with carers from across West Lancashire and to thank them for the incredible job they do in providing care.  The work they do and their commitment often goes unnoticed and unacknowledged.  Having a chance to listen to people’s stories about their caring responsibilities and what it demands was a stark reminder of the pressure many families are under to provide support and care.

“I thank West Lancashire Carers Centre for organising the event and for ensuring that carers who provide essential care all over West Lancashire are not forgotten.

“There are 6 million people in the UK with caring responsibilities, providing essential help and support to family and friends who need care, saving the public purse an estimated £87 billion each year.

"As a carer myself I understand daily challenges carers have to face. Indeed many carers don’t even consider themselves to be a carer – usually husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, friends – all of them make an invaluable contribution to our society which may affect their own health and well-being. Carer’s Week highlights these people and I want them to know that there is help available and that they are much appreciated.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank every carer in West Lancashire for the tireless hard work they do. Greater recognition of carers is an issue I’ve raised in Parliament and I promise to continue to fight for a better deal for carers, the unsung heroes in our community."

Marian Radford is the Principal Officer at West Lancashire Carers Centre, commented:

"It was fantastic that during Carer's Week, which is a celebration and recognition of the work that carers do, our local MP Rosie came to meet with us and showed her support. I want to say a big thank you to her."
