West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper is calling on Lancashire County Council to listen to resident’s concerns and introduce a 40 mph speed limit along Asmall Lane to improve road safety.
The Labour Party has tabled a motion for the next full County Council meeting demanding the 40 mph speed limit to make the road safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
MP Rosie has met with local resident’s; local police chiefs and raised the issue with Lancashire County Council calling for the speed limit on the road to be slashed from 60 mph to 40 mph.
MP Rosie said:
“I am calling on Lancashire County Council to listen to local residents, businesses, and the 1300 people that have put their name to a petition. We share one common goal to make Asmall Lane safer by reducing the speed limit to 40 mph.
“My message to the responsible Cabinet member is now is the time to act. There is full community backing for a 40mph speed limit. Residents want it, businesses want it, the MP is calling for it, the County and Borough Councillors support it, and the police have given it their backing.
“Quite simply we need to stop talking and start saving lives.”
Labour County Councillor Terry Aldridge said:
“I fully support the residents and our MP Rosie, which is why I have tabled this motion for the next full council. I know how devastating a fatal road traffic accident can be for families and communities. We must do all we can to make our roads safer. I am expecting all Conservative Councillors will be voting for this motion having told residents they support them. Now is the time to vote for it.”
