Working hard for the people of West Lancashire

29/01/13 - Rosie Cooper MP statement on the announcement of furt

“This extra £20 million of cuts will hit frontline policing hard and we will potentially start to see crime levels rise. I’ve been alerted to threats that Skelmersdale custody suite will be forced to close, CID and Target Teams have moved out of West Lancashire, and Response Teams have been merged. Following this I have written to the Chief Constable objecting to further cuts.”

“Despite having cut £42 million from the budget, Lancashire Police have done an excellent job in continuing to keep people safe in their homes and safe on the streets.

“However, this latest round of cuts could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back when it comes to policing, further demoralising the force.

“You do have to wonder about the Conservative-led Government’s commitment to policing. They’ve spent £100 million on Police Crime Commissioners who talk about crime yet cut budgets for those actually tackling crime.”

In recent months Rosie Cooper MP has challenged the Government in Parliament over their policing failures.
