One of the final acts of the Conservative Administration at Lancashire Council was to cut the provision of milk to schools.
West Lancashire MP Rosie has expressed her disgust at this move reminiscent of the 1970s with Thatcher the Milk Snatcher.
Cutting this service will force West Lancashire Councils to decide to stop providing the service, increase the price charged to parents or pay out of their own budgets that are already under pressure.
Reacting to this news, West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:
“The benefits to children’s physical and dental health from drinking milk is well-established and recognised. For Lancashire County Council to stop providing the milk service to schools is an absolute disgrace.
“We are all aware of the budget cuts faced by local councils. It is the school children of West Lancashire who will pay the price for this decision. This tells you all you need to know about the outgoing Conservative Administration.”
In recent years MP Rosie has worked with the School & Nursery Milk Alliance to promote the benefits of milk. Rosie has visited local primary schools in Halsall and Roby Mill as part of World Milk Day events.
Rosie has written to all West Lancashire primary schools, the County Council and to the Department of Education on this matter.
