29/06/09 College funding decision an ‘absolute disgrace’ says MP Rosie

West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has slammed a decision by the Learning & Skills Council not to fund ambitious plans to extend Skelmersdale College put forward as part of this year’s capital grant programme.

Rosie said:

“The decision not to fund Skelmersdale College this year is an absolute disgrace and yet another sign of the incompetence of the Learning & Skills Council and the inept handling of funding of Further Education colleges.

“I have pressed upon the LSC and Ministers the importance of this project to the future of young people in Skelmersdale and the regeneration of the town."

“I will renew my efforts, together with Steve Broomhead and the college, to get the LSC and the Secretary of State to urgently review this appalling decision."

“The LSC Board should be sacked for being incompetent and out of touch.”
