West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:
“I am fully aware of Aughton residents concerns about the inclusion by West Lancashire Borough Council of sites as Plan B options as residents have been to see me. It is an issue on which I have written to the Borough Council as the responsible planning authority.
“There has been a lot of focus on the Plan A options, Yew Tree Farm and Chequer Lane for example. However, if for whatever reason they don’t proceed then the alternative Plan B sites will come into play. Residents living close to these are left in limbo waiting to see if there will be any development, although it could be many years before they find out as this plan runs to 2027.
“Across West Lancashire there is a general level of anger and frustration about how the entire Local Plan process been handled. Residents feel as if they haven’t been listened to and that their opinions don’t matter. This has left many feeling incredibly frustrated. We are now moving towards a stage where a Planning Inspector will be appointed to review the West Lancashire Local Plan.
“In the case of Aughton there is a real sense that the village has been swallowed into Ormskirk merging into one single conurbation. There are also concerns about using greenbelt sites to continue to grow that conurbation.
“I can appreciate and understand Aughton residents’ frustration. I will continue to highlight any constituents concerns that are raised with me.”
