WEST Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has held talks with the Government’s top adviser on dental care in England. Barry Cockcroft, Chief Dental Officer at the Department of Health, met with Rosie while on a visit to West Lancashire. At Rosie’s request, Mr Cockcroft visited Ormskirk Hospital where the interim NHS dental services which Rosie campaigned hard for are now up and running. The service was set up after a number of Ormskirk’s dental practices decided to pull out of offering NHS dental care. Rosie said: “I was delighted to meet with the Chief Dental Officer. We discussed a number of issues surrounding dentistry and access to NHS dental care in Ormskirk. “We went into the mobile surgery at Ormskirk Hospital so he could see the interim NHS provision I campaigned for which is now in place. It really is a first class service and the people we met were really delighted they could finally access NHS care in Ormskirk again. “This is really a foretaste of what is to come when the new, permanent service is in place and I cannot wait. “As ever, I will continue to press NHS Central Lancashire to ensure this is in place as soon as possible and that people who were forced into paying for Denplan can once again return to the NHS.” | |
