Health services face being left homeless

IMG_6225.JPGWest Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) have failed to confirm future sites for services, such as West Lancashire Health Centre and Skelmersdale Walk-In Centre leaving the services homeless.

In April 2017 a new private provider will take over the running of some urgent care services in West Lancashire.  At the moment who that will be is unknown.  It is also unknown if the services will stay in their current locations.

Rosie Cooper, MP for West Lancashire, raised the issue of the future location of services with West Lancashire CCG who were unable to confirm what will happen, whether the services will stay or go.

At present West Lancashire Health Centre is run from the Ormskirk Hospital site whilst Skelmersdale Walk-In Centre is based at the Concourse Shopping Centre.  Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust run both services but are set to lose the contract.  This certainly raises questions about the future of West Lancashire Health Centre after April as it is currently run from Southport and Ormskirk hospital.

Speaking about the uncertainty of the situation, West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:

“It is only a matter of months until the new provider for urgent care services is supposed to be taking over these vital local health services.

“At the moment we don’t know who this will be or if they plan to continue using the current facilities or if they will be allowed to.  If they do have to find new facilities, how long will this take and will they be as accessible for patients as the current sites?

“We are facing the prospect of homeless health services unless West Lancashire CCG start offering some assurances, answering questions and end the secrecy masked as commercial confidentiality.”
