04/03/10 West Lancs MP warns of deadly Carbon Monoxide risk
Rosie Cooper MP has urged West Lancashire residents to protect themselves against the deadly threat of Carbon Monoxide poisoning. New research shows that 88% of households in the North West are putting themselves at risk of poisoning by not having an audible Carbon Monoxide alarm. Carbon Monoxide is a highly poisonous gas that has no colour taste and smell, making it impossible to detect without an alarm. Rosie is supporting the ‘Carbon Monoxide – Be Alarmed!’ campaign which encourages people to ensure they have an audible Carbon Monoxide alarm and that they have all fuel burning appliances serviced annually by a registered and qualified engineer. The campaign is also backed by Kirstie Allsopp, of Channel 4’s Location, Location, Location. Rosie...

03/03/10 West Lancs MP welcomes cash rewards for clean energy
West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has welcomed the ambitious announcement by the Government awarding cash rewards for households and communities who generate clean electricity and heating. Rosie Cooper MP said: “I am delighted that the Government has taken steps to give businesses and the public incentive to tackle climate change. “The Government rightly wants to reward home owners and communities who generate their own clean electricity on a smaller scale. Energy should not be the sole domain of large industry. This new scheme opens it up to more communities, businesses and individuals. “I encourage all West Lancashire residents who are currently using clean electricity and doing their part to get involved in this new scheme to save some money....

02/03/10 Rosie Cooper MP puts the spotlight on screening in West Lancashire
MP Rosie Cooper met with representatives from Beating Bowel Cancer, at their annual BE LOUD BE CLEAR reception asking Parliamentarians to be loud about bowel cancer and raise awareness of the importance of screening. Bowel cancer is the UK’s second biggest cancer killer. Of the 100 people diagnosed with bowel cancer every day, almost half will die from the condition. Yet over 90% of cases can be treated successfully if diagnosed early enough. Ensuring that people take part in the NHS bowel cancer screening programme is essential in improving outcomes for bowel cancer patients. All people aged 60-69 in England are invited for screening every two years through the NHS bowel cancer screening programme. Yet, in West Lancashire only...

01/03/10 MP slams the Tory budget
West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper was pleased that Conservative controlled council heeded her call for a Council tax freeze this week but was very disappointed that with £23million in the bank they failed to invest in initiatives such as weekly waste collection, concessionary travel and youth provision. Rosie commented: "With £23 Million sat in their bank account, it is a disgrace that the Tory Council continue to refuse to give pensioners concessionary travel arrangements comparable to neighbouring areas, to re-instate weekly bin collections, and refuse to invest in services for young people, including free swimming. "They could have done all this and more but instead have chosen to retain an obscene amount of cash in reserves." Rosie continued: "If they...

01/03/10 Rosie Demands Transparency on Ashcroft Cash
Local MP Rosie Cooper has called on Tory Prospective Parliamentary Candidate to reveal how much of the so-called 'Ashcroft money' he and his Lancashire colleagues have received to help in their election campaigns. This is following the revelation by Lord Ashcroft of his 'non-dom ' tax status in the UK. For 10 years the Tory peer refused to make his tax status known. Rosie said: "Councillor Owens is good at demanding transparency. However, he should play by his own rules and be open and honest about how much the multi-millionaire Deputy Chairman of the Tory Party Lord Ashcroft has donated to election campaigning in Lancashire. Indeed, has Cllr. Owens been a beneficiary of 'Ashcroft' money?"...
