Rosie Cooper MP backs #CaringHeroes campaign

Rosie.jpgAn initiative to highlight the sterling work done by the care industry’s unsung heroes, launched by the operators of a Skelmersdale care home, has been backed by West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper.

National care operator Springhill Care Group, which runs Birch Green Care Home, launched the high profile campaign earlier this year, encouraging the industry to think more about the people who work behind the scenes.

Recently Professor Martin Green, chief executive of Care England, lent his support to the campaign, which is encouraging the care industry to join the conversation on social media using the hashtag #caringheroes.

Springhill is highlighting the work of those care staff who often go the extra mile for those people in their care, above and beyond their day-to-day responsibilities.

Now Rosie Cooper, whose constituency covers Birch Green Care Home, has backed the campaign.

She said: “This campaign to highlight the work that goes on, often unseen by many of us, is a great way to shine a spotlight on our unsung heroes.

“The care sector has faced a range of challenges as budgets have been cut and the ageing population has placed additional pressures on providers, and it’s important to demonstrate how passionate and committed our care staff are.”

The number of people employed carrying out social care duties in England is estimated at 1.48 million, including full and part-time work.

Donna Briggs, managing director of Springhill Care, added: “We welcome Rosie’s support for the campaign. Our campaign is steadily picking up support and interest from the care sector across the UK and we would urge anyone with a story to tell to join the conversation online.”
