West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has met with members of the newly-formed Parbold Flood Action Group to discuss their work combating flooding in the village which has devastated numerous homes and businesses.

MP Rosie met the local residents on Burnside, a street where multiple properties were flooded during the 2015 Boxing Day floods that inundated communities across West Lancashire.

The group updated Rosie on their work producing a report into flooding problems across Parbold, the causes and possible solutions.

Rosie Cooper MP said:

“Increasingly we are seeing residents and communities having no one to turn to when faced with their homes and businesses being flooded, with neither the government, its agencies or local authorities taking responsibility for helping people in their time of need.

“Whilst I believe that more must be done by the authorities to help the victims of flooding, it is great to see communities coming together to form Flood Action Groups and giving themselves a strong local voice when dealing with these issues.

“I will continue to work with and support Flood Action Groups across West Lancashire whilst also pushing for more action from government and the agencies to tackle these complex problems. It is not acceptable for residents to bear the full burden of protecting their properties and possessions from flooding, leading them to ask what are they paying their taxes for.”
