West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has welcomed discussions revisiting the 375/385 service re-routing that has affected West Lancashire bus passengers traveling to Southport and Formby District General Hospital.
Representatives from Arriva Buses and Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust are meeting to discuss concerns following the decision to alter the route last year. Previously the service used bus stops on Town Lane located at the front entrance of the hospital requiring just a short walk for those attending an appointment or visiting.
Now passengers have to get off the bus on Scarisbrick New Road and use a cut through path at the side of the hospital, which is not even a proper entrance. This has significantly increased the distance people have to walk to get into the hospital along this poorly lit and uneven track. Many of whom are disabled, elderly and ill.
MP Rosie said:
“I very much welcome the discussion taking place between Arriva and the hospital on how to address the issues and complaints that have arisen since the bus service was re-routed.
“We await to see the outcome of this meeting although sadly I am not holding my breath on the service being returned to its previous route stopping at the front of the hospital. It would be a great start to the New Year, and much better for those patients and visitors to the hospital if Arriva would change their mind and go back to the original bus stop.”
Rosie has previously met with Arriva Bus bosses to express her concerns over the service changes and how West Lancashire bus passengers attending the hospital have been affected.
