Following the publication of the West Lancashire Highways and Transportation Masterplan, West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper responded saying:
“I very much welcome this Masterplan from Lancashire County Council. It is the first time in a long time that Lancashire County Council has shown it understands the needs and challenges we face in West Lancashire.
“This Masterplan is about more than transport and highways projects. It is about our ambitions and aspirations for West Lancashire and its residents. An effective transport system opens up employment, education, social and leisure opportunities. It helps to attract more investment to the area.
“Delivering these projects will be difficult and challenging. I know we have a great champion for West Lancashire in Cllr John Fillis, Councillor for Skelmersdale East and Cabinet Member for Transport. We will work closely to find ways to deliver a better deal on transport for West Lancashire.”
“If we don’t see the delivery of projects like Skelmersdale railway station, rail electrification or road schemes to tackle congestion, West Lancashire will become isolated, disconnected and we will grind to a standstill.
“I would encourage all West Lancashire residents to have their say on this Masterplan and make their voices heard.”
