Responding to the announcement of the Concourse Shopping Centre planning application, West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:
“The Concourse Shopping Centre is important to a vibrant town centre for Skelmersdale. However, I do not believe their latest planning application is the answer for the town.
“Already local residents have said to me they are very cautious about these plans. When the Concourse was the only option in town there was no major investment in their centre. Now that there are serious plans for the town centre, they keep coming forward with new plans and investment.
“Residents have said the lack of any consultation or publicity prior to the plans being submitted is perhaps telling, as well as wondering what happened to their last announcement of a Concourse supermarket?
“My ambition for the Skelmersdale town centre is for the redevelopment of the entire town centre. A scheme that reflects the ambitions and aspirations of the town and its residents. What we want to see is a town centre that meets the needs of the town over the next 50 years.
“A new town centre sitting alongside the new West Lancashire College campus with links to a new railway station and a new sports facility.
“A real thriving town centre which Skelmersdale residents deserve – they have waited long enough.”
