Responding to the appointment of a new Chair of Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust, West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:
“What we need is a Hospital Chair who is going to fight relentlessly to protect the interests of West Lancashire patients and the future of Southport and Ormskirk NHS Hospital Trust.
“This is a critical time with the NHS under severe service pressures, budgets are being slashed and the Government keeps looking at merging services/trusts
“We need someone who puts West Lancashire residents health needs first and last, not someone who is here for something to do with their time.
“Sue really needs to understand quickly how important protecting our local health service is, which is why I fought to secure the £3 million West Lancashire Health Centre at Ormskirk Hospital and fought against the proposed merger plans in 2006. Sue also needs to understand the challenges beyond the Hospital’s front door such as the 1 hour 20 minute one-way bus journey from Up Holland to Southport which patients and visitors using public transport have to endure.
“I look forward to meeting Sue in the near future to discuss how we can work together to deliver the best possible health services for the people of West Lancashire.”
