West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has received reports alleging the Concourse owners are telling tenants and customers she wants the shopping centre to close.
MP Rosie said in response:
“First of all this isn’t true!
“It is really disappointing to hear and it is irresponsible that people should try to whip up fear through misinformation.
“My position has always been clear -; I want to see the redevelopment of the whole of Skelmersdale town centre.
“Skelmersdale residents deserve a vibrant town centre that provides everything other small towns have, including a night time economy.
“Having a strong and vibrant Concourse has always been an integral part of a new future for the town centre.
“Let’s remember though that the Concourse has had a monopoly on town centre retail space since it opened.
“In the better economic times they never took the opportunity to invest in a new cinema or leisure facilities or replace the multi-storey car park with a supermarket. Their last planning application for a supermarket sank without trace.
“If London and Cambridge Properties want to be part of this new future nobody is stopping them.
“Competition will bring about a better town centre for all, including the Concourse.
“I want to see a town centre the people of Skelmersdale deserve.”
