West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper is incredulous over the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government’s decision to grant permission for Whitemoss landfill to continue dumping hazardous waste for the next 20 years and to extend the site.
Following the announcement MP Rosie Cooper said:
“I am absolutely horrified by this appalling decision and I will be telling the Communities Secretary to his face that he should be ashamed.
“He has condemned the people of Skelmersdale to 20 more years of hazardous waste dumping and the consequences of living in the vicinity of this site.
“This truly is a sad day for all who have steadfastly fought against the ongoing dumping of hazardous waste, which residents were promised would end 20 years ago and now face the dumping of hazardous waste for a further 20 years.
“Greg Clark has utterly disregarded the wellbeing of an entire community for the greed of a few. Business wins yet again.
“It is clear from the types of decisions that the Conservatives have taken that they view the north as a wasteland and have consigned us to be a dumping ground, which is why we need Lancashire County Council to protect residents by rejecting the Conservatives push for fracking.
“There’s no hiding, after this scandalous decision, the truth is out. Localism is a lie.
“Residents and local campaign groups need to consider this decision. I will continue to support them in any further action.”
