West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper’s meeting on Ormskirk town centre was a positive meeting with progress between retailers and councils.
Current town centre refurbishment works have caused disruption to market traders and retailers affecting their businesses. Following concerns raised with Rosie she organised a meeting with representatives from the Ormskirk Market Traders Committee, retailers, Lancashire County Council and West Lancashire Borough Council in an effort to resolve these issues.
Following the meeting, MP Rosie said:
“The dreadful inconvenience for traders and retailers is coming to an end. I am assured that the work is progressing and will be completed on schedule, which will bring to an end the disruption to shopping in Ormskirk.
“Getting all the relevant parties round the table proved to be positive. I believe there is now a greater appreciation of the challenges faced and the impact the works have had on trade and takings.
“There is also a greater commitment from the Borough Council to work more closely with local retailers and traders in how to attract shoppers and visitors back into Ormskirk.
“However, there is still more work to do but the improved communication between all parties is a start. I will be organising a further meeting for all town centre retailers to attend and there will be regular meetings as we all work together to reinvigorate Ormskirk town centre making it vibrant and successful.”
