West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper can reveal that a new bus stop is being considered along Scarisbrick New Road for passengers using the 375 / 385 Arriva bus service to travel to Southport and Formby District General Hospital.
MP Rosie has received correspondence from Arriva bosses, which states that Merseytravel “are willing to look at an additional stop nearer to the entrance Southport bound.”
Additional requests for a new pedestrian crossing have been met with concern by Sefton Council because of the existing crossing near KGV College. Council officials are concerned that the additional crossing would potentially cause traffic congestion affecting Kew roundabout at times.
MP Rosie said:
“I do appreciate the efforts by Arriva to secure improvements for passengers now having to use this pathway at the side of the hospital on Scarisbrick New Road as the new entrance.
“I await the outcome of the site visits and discussions between the various authorities as to whether the location for a new bus stop can be agreed upon.
“My overriding preference would be for the 375/385 bus service to be re-routed back so it once again passes by the hospital’s main entrance.
“I continue to be contacted by West Lancashire residents who are finding the new way into the hospital difficult at times, particularly for elderly and disabled patients and visitors.
“I will continue to push for a more satisfactory response to this situation.”
