West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has secured action from Highways England to undertake safety improvements on the footbridge between Gerrard Place and White Moss Road South crossing the M58 motorway. The works will raise the height of the parapets on the sides of the bridge to improve the safety for cyclists and pedestrians using the footbridge.
Funding has been secured to carry out the works and has been planned for the end of the calendar year.
West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper MP said:
“I very much welcome the decision by Highways England to commit the funding to improve the safety of the footbridge, which is used by pedestrians and cyclists.
“They have also informed me that there will be work to improve the cycleway facilities at Junction 4, which links Moss Road and Glenburn Road, again to improve the safety for cyclists using this route and to encourage more use of the cycle path.”
Highways England will be removing some of the vegetation and replacing it with low growing tree plants to improve the visibility for cyclists and motorists at the roundabout junction.
