West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has welcomed the Planning Inspector’s decision to refuse planning permission on appeal for a 90 acre solar farm at Tawdside Farm, Hoscar.
MP Rosie stood alongside local residents and the Stop Hoscar Solar Farm campaigners in opposing these plans that would have seen construction of a solar farm covering huge swathes of the greenbelt for the next 25 years.
Speaking after the decision, MP Rosie said:
“This is fantastic news for the residents who stood up and made their voices heard in opposing these solar farm plans.
“Local residents said no, the Borough Council said no and now central government has given the final definitive no to these plans.
“As I have said previously, the need for renewable energy should not override the substantial environmental and community interests of concerns.
“We cannot accept a situation in which West Lancashire becomes the dumping ground for these renewable energy projects from which other benefits to the detriment of West Lancashire and its residents.
“Renewable energy has to be part of our energy mix to help reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. Developing large scale schemes in the greenbelt is not the place to start.
“Following the refusal at Gerrard’s Hall in Aughton alongside this decision there is a clear message that these types of developments will not be allowed in the greenbelt.”
