West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has written to the Prime Minister calling on him to apply to the EU Solidarity Fund to secure essential support for flood hit communities here in West Lancashire and across the North West.
Members of Parliament and the European Parliament in the North West have sent letters to Downing Street pushing the government to make application to this fund providing desperately needed additional resourced to support communities, homeowners and businesses in the region that are living with the devastating effects of the floods and storms in December.
In the last year countries such as Italy, Bulgaria and Romania have each received more than £40 million from this fund in similar circumstances.
MP Rosie said:
“As the clean-up continues for homeowners and businesses across West Lancashire securing every bit of support available to help is a must for from the government to each of the key agencies.
“By making an application to the EU Solidarity Fund, if successful, these extra resources can and will help communities, like West Lancashire, in the rebuilding and restoring work that is taking place following the floods.
“I await to hear from the Prime Minister on whether the UK government will take the necessary steps to make an application and get additional support for flood hit communities.”
