West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has cleared up the parking enforcement confusion on New Court Way in Ormskirk following questions raised by business owners.
MP Rosie received complaints from local businesses regarding the parking situation on New Court Way. Cars parked on both sides of the road. Cars also parked on the bend reducing visibility and making it less safe for pedestrians crossing from Station Road to Railway Approach. A route used by families walking to school.
Having raised the matter with Lancashire County Council it transpired that the yellow lines were not of a standard to allow parking enforcement. This prevented authorities from taking any action against parked vehicles.
The yellow lines will now be repainted to bring them up to standard. Once the work is completed enforcement of the restrictions on New Court Way will start again and penalty charge notices will be issued to offenders.
West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:
“In search of free parking some motorists have been parking on New Court Way causing problems for local business owners.
“Lancashire County Council’s action to repaint the lines should ensure cars parked on yellow lines will receive a ticket.
“Local motorists need to be aware that repainting the lines will mean action can be taken against motorists ignoring the parking restrictions, in some cases causing problems for local businesses.”
