In response to Arriva Rail North’s refusal to seriously consider the future provision of train services between Southport and Manchester Piccadilly, MP Rosie Cooper said:
“The meeting was organised with the clear intention of seeking to negotiate a solution to the future of local train services to Manchester Piccadilly. It was quickly evident that Arriva had no such intentions.
“It is clear the communities of West Lancashire, who pay considerable sums of money to travel, have been failed by the Department for Transport by excluding this service from the tender document. Arriva have also failed them by consistently refusing to listen or act. This attitude doesn’t bode well for the future of the franchise.
“Here we have further evidence of a rail investment strategy that leaves people in communities like West Lancashire marginalised, disconnected and disregarded.”
