Responding to the news that work is to begin on identifying the best town centre location for a Skelmersdale railway station, West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:
“Having announced the substantial and significant £4.7 million investment in April the progress to start the work on the railway station site location is a welcome news. It is further evidence that a railway station for Skelmersdale is realistic.
“I will continue to work alongside Lancashire County Council and other partners, such as Merseytravel and Network Rail to see the railway station delivered.
“We have come a long way since I began the campaign for a Skelmersdale railway station. For me this railway project is key to the future development of Skelmersdale. This project will bring major investment into the town that will bring essential connections to open up social, economic opportunities that are good for the town and its residents.”
