West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has backed the work of the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA), the Armed Forces charity in providing support and advice for veterans and their families.
Over the last 12 months the SSAFA helped over 36,000 veterans and family members, an increasing number of whom are of working age. The proportion of veterans under the age of 65 has risen from 25% to 40% in just ten years.
MP Rosie is encouraging local veterans who need support to contact Forcesline – the SSAFA’s free, confidential helpline. The Forcesline team is trained to assess an individual’s needs and refer them to the SSAFA’s local services and specialised programmes or to signpost them to another appropriate organisation.
Forcesline can be contacted by calling 0800 731 4880 or through their website at:
Rosie Cooper MP said:
“I applaud the excellent work done by the SSAFA in supporting our veterans, Armed Forces personnel and their families. These are people who put themselves in harm’s way in order to protect our country, and they deserve all the help and support we can give.
“The SSAFA can give advice on issues such as housing, finance and health problems. If a veteran or a family member are struggling with any of these types of issues I would urge them to call Forcesline for advice and support.”
