Speaking after local campaigners were granted permission to pursue a judicial review on the planning permission to continue hazardous waste dumping at Whitemoss landfill site in Skelmersdale, West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:
“Finally Skelmersdale residents’ voices of opposition to 20 more years of hazardous waste dumping will be heard.
“Working with local campaigners opposing plans to extend the landfill site, I have witnessed their dogged persistence in continuing to oppose the awful decision.
“I am delighted with the decision to allow a judicial review as extending the Whitemoss site for 20 more unnecessary years was absolutely the wrong decision for residents and Skelmersdale, once again breaking the repeated promises to close the site.
“We now await the next hearing for the next round in the fight to stop these horrendous decisions becoming a reality.”
