West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has given her support to businesses in Ormskirk town centre who have raised their concerns over the level of trade in their shops.
MP Rosie has met with local retailers who have noted a decline in recent months and years in customer footfall and sales.
They say West Lancashire Borough Council are taking steps to try address the issue, but must act more quickly to address the risk of further decline of the town centre.
The council is currently seeking views of the businesses themselves about the way forward for the retail sector in Ormskirk.
Rosie Cooper MP said:
“Ormskirk and West Lancashire needs to have an attractive offering for people to shop and socialise. I have met with many businesses and owners who have been concerned by a downturn in customers and sales. Many of these businesses wish to continue trading in the town but need to see more effort being put into making the town more vibrant and an attractive place to shop.
“We need to work together so I’m very happy to assist businesses and work with the council in hosting a meeting with the retail sector to discuss the challenges we face and work towards solutions to ensure we stop the decline and bring people back shopping in Ormskirk.”
