West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has expressed her deep anger and frustration that St Modwen’s recent self-congratulatory press release saying how well the company and its listed building projects is doing, seems to have forgotten Skelmersdale.
Despite first signing the contract with West Lancashire Borough Council in 2007, astonishingly, Skelmersdale is yet to see its first digger kickstarting the new development and begin construction of the new town centre that Skelmersdale so desperately needs.
A recent press release headed St Modwen’s NW projects play key role in ‘solid performance’ has recently been published in which St Modwen’s Property Director for the North Guy Gusterson outlines six other nearby developments but fails to mention Skelmersdale.
One of the six includes the Kirkby Town Centre development only a few miles away from Skelmersdale.
Rosie Cooper MP responded:
“It’s hard not to look at these comments from St Modwen, praising themselves and shouting about how well they’re doing at various nearby sites in Merseyside and the North West, and not notice the massive omission that is Skelmersdale Town Centre. Did they think no one would notice!
“St Modwen have sat on this project since 2006/7 and effectively held the residents of Skelmersdale to ransom while delivering none of the promised new investment and development.
“Before Christmas I thought Skelmersdale was the town Santa forgot, and now appears St Modwen forgot about it too.
“If St Modwen can’t deliver a scheme, after over 10 years, it’s time for them to go!”
