West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has commented on the commencement of fracking at Preston New Road.
“Lancashire County Council rightly refused the planning application from Cuadrilla to frack at Preston New Road. The Government overturned this decision and is allowing the fracking to begin.
“The Communities Secretary and this Government have consistently shown complete and utter contempt for local decision-making and the will of local residents here in Lancashire.
“I have been clear on my position on fracking that it is important that residents’ voices continue to be heard over the interests of big business. I will continue to work with local residents and campaign groups opposed to fracking including Halsall Against Fracking and the Moss Alliance.
“Only recently I questioned the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and I continue to raise fracking issues with the Environment Agency and Public Health England chiefs.
“It is also important that the Labour Party stands strong against fracking and I have invited the Shadow Secretary of State for International Trade and Shadow Minister for International Climate Change Barry Gardiner MP to join me at Preston New Road and at the Altcar site in my West Lancashire constituency where we are threatened by fracking.”
