West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper commented:
“I have been fighting for road safety improvements on this stretch of road for some years, and we had recent success in Lancashire County Council agreeing to reduce the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph.
“However, a young cyclist has been involved in a road traffic accident on County Road, and was taken to hospital with serious, but thankfully not life threatening injuries.
“I have contacted Lancashire County Council and Lancashire Constabulary to find out how this accident occurred and what further safety measures are being considered. I am told the investigation into the accident is ongoing.
“It was only on Friday I sat with the Director of Highways in my office and lobbied for enhanced road safety improvements on County Road which he said he would consider – now action is needed.
“My thoughts are with the young boy and his family and wish him a speedy recovery from injuries sustained.”
