A raised vegetable garden and a scheme to support and educate people to better understand their finances have received funding totalling £16,523, thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

The five-figure funding boost was welcomed by Rosie Cooper MP for West Lancashire.

Friends of Tawd Valley was awarded £1,990, from Postcode Local Trust – one of three community focused grant giving trusts, funded thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery – for its incredible edible raised beds project. The voluntary group will use the money to build raised planting areas in the valley where locals can grow their own vegetables and fruit.

Money matters – action before crisis, a money advice and support scheme, from Lancashire Community Finance Trust Limited received £14,533 from People’s Postcode Trust. Aimed at providing financial skills support, advice and debt counselling, the funding will cover the project’s operating costs.

West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:
“This funding is a significant boost to two good causes and those who benefit from their valuable work throughout my constituency.

“It will provide people with the opportunity and space to grow their own fruit, vegetables and herbs and support those with existing debt to effectively manage their finances before it hits crisis point.

“Thanks to People’s Postcode Lottery players for making a positive difference in West Lancashire.”

Katherine Sellar, community programmes advisor at People’s Postcode Lottery added:
“It’s not just players that win with People’s Postcode Lottery – charities do too.

“These are great examples of the variety of projects that players support, helping charities and good causes create lasting change in the communities that they are part of.”

Last year, more than £8 million raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery was distributed to grassroots projects across Britain.

The next opportunity for local charities and good causes to apply for funding will be in August 2020. Funding is available through three trusts, with each supporting projects focused on different themes. Those interested in local funding opportunities can find out more by visiting the trusts’ websites:
