West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has congratulated Skelmersdale community champions Margaret Highton of Evermoor Hub and Stella Connell of the Birchwood Centre following their recognition in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Margaret was the recipient of the British Empire Medal while Stella was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE).

Rosie Cooper MP commented:
“I am absolutely delighted to hear that two of Skelmersdale and West Lancashire’s true community champions have been recognised for the work they do.

“Congratulations to Margaret Highton on her BEM and Stella Connell on her OBE, it is fantastic to see that the work of Evermore Hub and The Birchwood Centre, their workers, volunteers and their own personal tireless efforts, is recognised through these Honours.

“Having worked with both Margaret and Stella for the past fifteen years, I know just how passionate they are about supporting the local community and particularly vulnerable people in Skelmersdale and West Lancashire.

“The work of both organisations through the pandemic crisis and lockdown has been inspirational ensuring local residents and families had access to food through their foodbanks and their work with the council.”
