West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper calls on people in West Lancashire looking for graduate or apprentice roles to apply for roles that could help transform the UK energy sector and reach net zero climate targets.

The schemes are run by National Grid, the owner of the electricity and gas transmission networks or ‘energy motorways’ in England and Wales and gas in Scotland. Their report published earlier this year revealed that the UK energy sector needs to recruit for 400,000 skilled jobs right across the country between now and 2050 to get the UK to net zero.

They are currently looking to hire for their Graduate, Student Placement and Apprenticeship programmes and this year, for the first time, National Grid are also offering a new Gas Transmission Degree Apprenticeship where apprentices will study for a Bachelor of Engineering as part of their role.

West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:
“In applying for one of these programmes, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of energy in the UK at a critical time in the UK’s path to tackling climate change.

“Many of the new joiners will hone their skills at a one-of-a-kind, world-class training centre in Eakring, Nottinghamshire, offering an unrivalled development experience.

“I’d encourage my West Lancashire constituents looking for their next step in work to apply to this fantastic opportunity.

Moryse McInnis, National Grid Graduate said:
“I’ve been on the National Grid graduate scheme for just over a year and have learnt a lot.

“I’m really excited to be playing my part in the transition of the energy sector to help tackle climate change and I’d encourage anyone interested in the energy sector to apply.”

The deadline for Graduates and Undergraduates is 31 January 2021 and for apprenticeship programmes is 14 March 2021.
