West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has been informed of significant delays to postal service affecting the L39 and L40 postcodes, covering much of Ormskirk and Burscough.
Rosie has been advised that a large number of the staff at the Ormskirk Delivery Office were simultaneously instructed to self-isolate by the NHS Test and Trace app earlier this month and that as a result, there is a delay to most postal deliveries.
Rosie has been in regular contact with Royal Mail, who have assured her that priority is being given to certain deliveries to make sure that they continue to arrive on time. These include deliveries of Personal Protective Equipment to care homes, postal COVID-19 testing kits, and letters advising residents that their time has come to book a COVID-19 vaccination.
Rosie Cooper MP said:
“Our postal workers have been instrumental in keeping the country moving during this crisis and it is right that they have followed public health advice and self-isolated when told to do so. It is disappointing to hear that residents’ service will be disrupted, but I am glad to hear that priority is being given to deliveries from the NHS, especially with regard to the vital matter of booking vaccination appointments.
“I trust that regular service will be restored as soon as possible, and I have requested regular updates as the situation develops.”
