West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has slammed NHS England & Improvement for not being fully transparent after she reported them for breaching the Freedom of Information Act requirements. Rosie had made a Freedom of Information request for details surrounding NHS Improvement’s investigation into the transfer of Liverpool Community Health’s services.
The request was made in May and despite the FOIA legislation requiring a response within 20 working days, NHSE&I are yet to respond. The Information Commissioner’s Office have now written to the NHS ordering them to respond to the request within 20 working days, or risk the case being referred to the High Court.
Rosie Cooper MP commented:
“It is really disappointing that the NHS haven’t shared this information, as by law they are required to do so under the Freedom of Information Act.
“Unfortunately, since the Liverpool Community Health scandal was revealed, NHS England appear to want to sweep the details under the carpet.
“The Freedom of Information request was made to Amanda Pritchard in her previous NHS leadership role before she was named Chief Executive of NHS England and Improvement. It is doubly concerning that, now as the leader of the NHS, she has a hand in its lack of transparency”
“I hope that now with the ICO’s encouragement, they will provide answers to this simple request. This legislation is in place for a good reason, and public bodies should not be knowingly flouting their responsibility to share information.”
