West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has received confirmation from Lancashire County Council Highways Department that they will take several steps to improve road safety on Briars Lane in Burscough.
Local residents have complained to Rosie about dangerous driving and the poor state of road safety signage on Briars Lane. After raising this directly with the Executive Director for Transport within LCC, the council agreed to several improvement works. These include: hedge trimming to increase visibility of the ‘reduce speed now’ sign, refreshing the red Texture-flex and lining on the road, and repositioning or replacing signs that are currently not as visible as they should be.
Rosie Cooper MP said:
“Road safety signage is pointless if vehicles using the roads can’t actually see them!
“Residents were rightly concerned that the state of the road signs was unacceptable and likely contributing to the levels of dangerous driving.
“I am pleased that the council have agreed to undertake these works and I will be asking for confirmation that any bushes that have been obscuring road signs be placed on a regular maintenance timetable to prevent this reoccurring”
