West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has been reassured by Lancashire Constabulary that the police are dealing with anti-social drag race meetups at Pimbo in Skelmersdale.
After several constituents contacted Rosie to alert her to the recent increase in these ‘Max Power’ car meetups she urgently raised the matter with the local Chief Inspector and Lancashire County Council.
Chief Inspector for West Lancashire Chris Abbott reassured Rosie that the Police are dealing with these events as a priority and have developed a process whereby local Police and specialist Tac Ops officers will deploy to the area with a focus on prevention, stopping these gatherings from taking place.
Rosie Cooper MP commented:
“Residents of Skelmersdale should not have to fight for space on the roads with these illegal races.
“The organisers and participants of the events are selfishly and irresponsibly putting themselves and others at risk as well as causing anti-social noise and nuisance.
“I am pleased to hear that the Police are cracking down on these organised meetups and have requested a Public Space Protection Order to prevent any further gatherings taking place.”
