West Lancashire Borough Council have regained access to the fields beside Elmers Green Lane and undertaken overdue grass cutting and hedge trimming, Rosie Cooper MP has reported.
This comes after United Utilities, who reportedly lease the land from the WLBC, had changed the locks without alerting the council, preventing them from accessing the site to undertake this maintenance.
West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper commented:
“I contacted the council about the lack of maintenance after constituents told me about the poor conditions of the fields preventing them from making use of the green space.
“Residents of Skelmersdale will be pleased that they can now return to the recently mown fields, which are often used by dog walkers, kite flyers and lots of other activities.
“It is disappointing that poor communication between the Council and UU caused the delay to maintenance, but I am grateful that the council have acted so quickly and also confirmed that the fields will be included on their regular maintenance schedule.”
