Rosie Cooper MP has slammed Lancashire County Council for their failure to carry out road safety works that were promised in November 2021.
The West Lancashire MP had written to the County Council in late 2021 to raise her constituents concerns about the junction of Bells Lane and Altcar Lane being dangerous, specifically at night. The constituents explained that in Autumn, the junction has increased traffic at night due to ‘Farmageddon’ nearby and that there was a greatly increased risk of an accident.
LCC had responded to Rosie in November to say that they will be undertaking maintenance work for the reflective studs, lining and signage positioned at the bend, but these works never took place.
Rosie Cooper MP said:
“I am really disappointed that Lancashire County Council have yet again promised work to me and my constituents, and then never followed through. This is not the first time that has happened, and I am worried a trend is emerging.
“LCC clearly agreed with my constituents that road safety improvements needed to take place so to not actually do them has put everyone using that road at unnecessary risk.
“I have asked that LCC explain to me why this was not done at the time, and to ensure that the work is carried out as soon as possible. Constituents and I need to be able to trust that when the Council say they will do something, they actually will!”
