Rosie Cooper, MP for West Lancashire has added her name to an open letter from several North West Labour MPs to the Secretary of State for Transport, supporting Crewe’s bid to be the new home of Great British Railways headquarters.

Crewe is one of six places to be shortlisted and is the only place in the North West to make the shortlist. The MPs argue that Crewe has a strong rail heritage and is one of the most connected interchanges in the country, connecting the nation and serving as an important rail link for the North. For this reason, they say it would be the best place for the HQ of Great British Railways.

Rosie Cooper MP said:
“Rail passengers going from North to South in Britain will likely pass through Crewe, it really is the rail gateway to the North. For far too long, rail travel has been London centric, despite the rich locomotive history of the North West. That needs to change.
“That is why I am backing this bid for Crewe to be the home for the Great British Railways headquarters.
“If this is successful, the North West will have a stronger voice in rail decisions and hopefully we can get some of our essential rail projects back on track. Starting with Skelmersdale Railway!”
